At Rethink food and drink, we’re as much about superfoods as we are about super tastes. Sorry, we couldn’t help it. ????
We are big believers in the power of food. And there are some foods that pack a lot more punch than others. Our menu is built around plant-based, diverse flavors that are good for your body and soul. From our acai bowls to our superfood smoothies, you’ll find some extra-special ingredients to supercharge your day.
Here are some of the superfoods we can’t get enough of, and why they are worth taking a second look!
Turmeric
One of our favorites, turmeric is a powerful spice that has been used for thousands of years, and we can see why. Hailed for its anti-inflammatory abilities, as well as its ability to help prevent heart disease, viral infections, high cholesterol, and many, many other ailments, it has definitely earned its status as a superfood. It has a kick in terms of taste that makes experimenting with it in vegan and vegetarian dishes fun. And as an added bonus, it makes for a gorgeous golden latte like our Turmeric Latte— who can resist a drink that’s both gorgeous and good for you?
Activated Charcoal
Another superfood that’s been getting a lot of attention lately, activated charcoal has a whole host of benefits. It can help boost kidney function, reduce cholesterol and gas, and is even used as a hangover cure! Activated charcoal helps remove everyday toxins from the body, too— its negatively charged, porous texture helps trap toxins, preventing your body from absorbing them. Our Get Activated cold-pressed juice, which contains activated charcoal as well as lemon, maple, and lemongrass whether you are fighting through the dreaded hangover headache or just want to feel your absolute best.
Mesquite
You probably read mesquite and thought it was going to be smoky, right? Mesquite is a prized ingredient in our Two Smoothie, but this special addition actually has a wonderful nutty, caramelly flavor! Besides stabilizing blood sugar levels, and adding a boost of protein, mesquite contains the minerals potassium, iron, zinc, and magnesium. This boost is definitely worth a try in your next smoothie!
Goji Berry
Goji berries are a great addition to vegan and vegetarian diets if you’re looking for a boost of key nutrients. Goji berries are particularly good for helping boost immune systems, helping with weight loss, as well as maintaining blood sugar. A versatile fruit, we like to use them in our Acai Bowl, complete with organic açaí sorbet, seasonal fresh fruit, granola, coconut, goji berry, maple-almond butter drizzle, and cacao nib. Delicious for breakfast or an afternoon pick-me-up! Or try adding them for a boost in your next smoothie!
Spirulina
Spirulina is already well-known because of its distinct look and deep green color, but more than a pretty ingredient, it’s really healthy too! A blue-green algae with an amazing dense concentration of protein, it is especially beneficial for improving gut health, aiding in weight loss, managing diabetes, and even reducing blood pressure. If you’re looking for a sweet, yet healthy, treat, our Spirulina Chocolate Chip Cookie hits the spot. Or try our Sassy Celery cold-pressed juice, with celery, cucumber, spinach, parsley, and spirulina. Choices, choices.
Maca Root
A Peruvian plant found deep in the Andes, maca root has a lot of benefits, which is why it’s been purported as a superfood. It’s really good for a natural energy boost, improving mood, and even for improving learning and memory. A lot of our smoothies like the Three, Five, Six and Nine have been known to be mood-boosters thanks to our inclusion of maca root and a combination of other powerful ingredients.
Hemp Seed Oil
An incredibly nutritious addition to vegan and vegetarian food, hemp seed oil is steadily gaining more and more popularity. It helps reduce the risk of heart disease, helps with skin disorders, and is an amazing plant-based protein source. Our Five smoothie comes with hemp seed oil and a host of other ingredients that pack a seriously healthy punch like avocado, apple, banana, celery, greens, maca, ginger, and flaxseed for maximum flavor and a lot of nutritious benefits.
While the term superfood might be overused, we believe that each ingredient should be delicious and nutritious. Most of these superfoods and more are available to add-in to your smoothie to easily and deliciously customize your nutrition without swallowing a pill or adding more to your plate. These are just some of the superfoods we’ve decided to incorporate into our menus, and we’re always on the lookout to add more delicious plant-based foods that nourish your body and your soul.
